Bush Eyes Democrats for Help on Amnesty
President Bush yesterday said he will team up with Democrats to pass an immigration bill with a guest-worker program that his own party blocked this year, and his Republican opponents predicted a bloody intraparty fight but said they cannot stop such a bill from passing.
‘We will fight it, we will lose. It will go to the Senate, it will pass. The president will sign it. And it will happen quickly because that’s one thing they know they can pass,’ said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, who had led the opposition to a guest-worker plan. ‘I am absolutely horrified by this prospect, but I have to face reality.’
100 Million More Immigrants in 20 Years?
The immigration reform bill now under congressional consideration would grant amnesty to some 10 million illegal immigrants – but its real effects would be much more far-reaching, according to an eye-opening study by the Heritage Foundation.
The foundation found that the changes in immigration law would allow an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the United States over the next 20 years and “dramatically” change “the character of the nation.”
Current law allows 19 million legal immigrants over the next 20 years, so the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA), based largely on a compromise by Senators Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and Mel Martinez, R-Fla., would add an extra 84 million legal immigrants to the nation’s population.
“The figure of 103 million legal immigrants is a reasonable estimate of the actual immigration inflow under the bill and not the maximum number that would be legally permitted to enter,” the Heritage report by Robert Rector, senior research fellow in domestic policy studies,
President Bush could not get his own party to totally agree on selling out America, so now he has his eye set on the Democrats. It is sad that Bush has the mentality of “Do what I tell you to do or else.” What happened to the will of the people? What happened to “For the people, by the people”?
Bush had or has any intention of allowing the 700 miles of fence to be built. He has no intention of allowing any one to stop illegal immigrants from coming in to America. Bush will not allow the American government to pass any law banning illegal immigrants from coming in to America.
If I am or was wrong about saying that, then the 700 mile fence would have already been built, the American government would have cracked down on illegal immigration, and any illegal immigrant coming in to America would be arrested as a felon.
